Visa Application Centre
Tanım
A Visa Application Centre (VAC) is an outsourced office where applicants submit documents, pay fees, and give biometrics for a visa. Run by private contractors such as VFS Global, TLScontact, or BLS International on behalf of a government, a VAC handles administrative intake only — the visa decision remains with the consulate or embassy.
What a VAC does
Many governments outsource the front-office steps of visa processing to a commercial partner. At a VAC, applicants book an appointment, hand over their supporting documents and passport, pay the applicable fees, and provide biometrics such as fingerprints and a photograph. The centre then forwards the file to the relevant embassy or consulate, which makes the actual decision — a sequence agencies follow when tracking application status.
VACs do not assess eligibility or grant visas — they are logistics and data-capture operators. The largest networks are VFS Global, TLScontact, and BLS International, and applicants usually cannot choose their provider: the government designates which centre handles each destination and route.
Fees and why VACs matter
Because a VAC is a commercial operator, it charges a service fee on top of the government visa fee, and often sells optional extras such as premium lounges, courier return of the passport, or SMS tracking. This is a clear example of the government-fee-versus-service-fee distinction, and applicants should see the two separately — as they do in workflows like Schengen visa management.
For a visa agency, the VAC step is a fixed point in the client journey: the appointment date, the biometrics submission, and the passport return are all milestones worth tracking so nothing is missed.
Agencies routinely guide clients through the correct VAC for their destination, prepare document packs to the centre's checklist, and track appointment and passport-return dates. A platform like VisaCRM logs the VAC appointment and biometrics milestones per applicant so the agency can chase missing steps, though the visa decision always rests with the consulate.

What is the difference between a VAC and an embassy?
A Visa Application Centre is an outsourced administrative office that collects documents, fees, and biometrics and forwards the file. The embassy or consulate is the government mission that actually assesses eligibility and decides the visa. The VAC cannot approve, refuse, or influence a decision — it only handles intake and logistics.
Who runs Visa Application Centres?
Most VACs are operated by private outsourcing companies contracted by governments, the largest being VFS Global, TLScontact, and BLS International. A single government may use different providers in different countries, and applicants are normally directed to a specific designated centre rather than being able to choose their provider.
Why does a VAC charge an extra fee?
The VAC charges a service fee for handling the application logistics on the government's behalf, which is separate from and additional to the official visa fee. It may also offer optional paid extras such as courier passport return, premium appointment slots, or lounge access. These add-ons are optional; the base service fee usually is not.
