A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an electronic document an Australian registered education provider issues through the government's PRISMS system after a student accepts an offer and meets enrolment conditions, usually including a deposit. Applicants must hold a valid CoE for each course to lodge a Student visa (subclass 500) application.
How the CoE works
After a student accepts an offer from a registered Australian provider and meets its enrolment conditions, usually including a tuition deposit and, where required, health cover, the provider issues a CoE through PRISMS, the government's Provider Registration and International Student Management System. The CoE lists the student, the course, its start and end dates, the provider and the fees, with a unique confirmation code.
The CoE tells the Department of Home Affairs the student is genuinely enrolled in a registered (CRICOS) course. Applicants must hold a valid CoE for each course before lodging a Student visa (subclass 500) application.
Who needs a CoE
Every international student applying for the subclass 500 visa needs a CoE for each course they intend to study; a packaged pathway may require several. Issuing timelines vary by provider and are slower during peak January and July intakes, so students are advised to secure the CoE well before their planned start.
