Form DS-160

Tanım

Form DS-160 is the United States' Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, completed on the Consular Electronic Application Center for temporary visas such as B-1/B-2 visitor, F-1 student and H-1B work. Submitting it produces a barcoded confirmation page the applicant brings to their consular interview; it collects biographic, travel and security information.

How the DS-160 works

Form DS-160 is completed and submitted online through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC). It applies to nearly every temporary visa category, including visitor, student, exchange and most work visas, and asks for biographic details, travel plans, work and education history, and security questions.

On submission the system produces a confirmation page with a unique barcode. The applicant does not send the whole form to the consulate; instead they bring the barcoded confirmation page to the interview. The Department of State now requires the barcode number to match the appointment record, so it should not be re-created after booking.

Who needs a DS-160 and common pitfalls

Almost every applicant for a US nonimmigrant visa, including B-1/B-2 visitor and F-1 student applicants, must file a DS-160 before scheduling an interview. Each traveller needs their own, including children.

Because the form is long and submitted under oath, errors are common: mismatched names, an inconsistent barcode, or answers that conflict with supporting documents. Agencies supporting applicants to the United States review each DS-160 against the passport and evidence before it is locked.

Vize acenteleri için ne anlama geliyor

The DS-160 confirmation, the MRV fee receipt and the interview slot are the moving parts of a US nonimmigrant case, and a platform like VisaCRM keeps the barcode, appointment and documents on one record so they stay consistent.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

What is the DS-160 used for?

The DS-160 is the standard online application for US nonimmigrant visas, temporary categories such as tourism, business, study, exchange and most work visas. It collects your biographic information, travel purpose and background, and its barcoded confirmation page is required to schedule and attend your visa interview. It does not itself grant a visa; a consular officer decides that.

Do I need a separate DS-160 for each person?

Yes. Every applicant needs their own DS-160, including infants and children, even when a family travels together. Each person receives a separate barcoded confirmation page and, in most cases, attends their own interview. Filing one form for a whole family is not permitted, so agencies handling family cases prepare a form per applicant.

What is the DS-160 confirmation page?

After you submit the form, CEAC generates a confirmation page showing a barcode and a unique application ID. You print this page and bring it to your interview, where officers scan the barcode to retrieve your application. The State Department now requires the barcode number to match your appointment profile, so avoid creating a new DS-160 after you have booked.

Can I change my DS-160 after submitting it?

Once submitted, a DS-160 cannot be edited. If you find a mistake, you generally complete a new form, which produces a new barcode, and that can conflict with an appointment already booked under the old number. Because of this, review every answer carefully before submitting, and check current guidance on the official travel.state.gov site.
