How ESTA works
Eligible travellers apply on the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) portal, providing passport and biographical details and answering security questions. The system checks the application against law-enforcement and security databases and returns a decision. Authorities recommend applying at least 72 hours before travel, as instant approval is not guaranteed.
